Abstract

|
Although autologous bone remains the “gold standard” for stimulating bone repair and regeneration, the morbidity from its harvesting and its restricted availability generated the need for the development of bone graft substitutes. Based on distinct properties of bone graft substitutes, these substitutes have specific indications. The purpose of review is to evaluate selection of bone graft substitutes, mainly their characteristics and indications for their use.
